Amethyst served royalty throughout history and was considered in ancient times to be a precious stone, worth as much as diamonds, rubies, and emeralds.  As the stone of St. Valentine, it signifies faithful love, passion, creativity, and spirituality.  It was believed to prevent intoxication; ‘Amethystos’ means “not drunk” in ancient Greek.
