Gem Story

The national stone of Peru, Blue Opal is relatively rare and found only in the Andes Mountains in San Patricio, Peru.  It is a translucent stone with a color described as ‘Caribbean Ocean Blue.’

The ancients claimed the gem was a gift from the Inca earth goddess, Pachamama. In fact, numerous ancient cultures nicknamed opals after the mythological or the mystical, with examples like “Pandora” and “The Eye Stone.” Over in Europe, blue opals became symbols of innocence and hope.

Peruvian Blue Opal is cherished as a healing gemstone which brings peacefulness to the wearer and releases any kinds of stress. The stone is good for quieting the mind and for letting go of the trauma of old wounds.

Opal is the birthstone for October.
